Momiji
Seattle, Washington
Commercial

Located within Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, Momiji offers an array of dining experiences housed under one roof. The design draws upon the traditional layout of Kyoto residences known as machiya - best known for their interior courtyards. By maintaining the original facade and orienting the bar at the entrance, guests may be surprised to discover the upscale sushi bar experience beyond. Transitioning from the bar to the dining area, a dimly lit corridor offers moments of pause between space. Upon entering the dining area, floor to ceiling glass opens into the full Japanese garden. Two light-filled dining areas sit opposite to the garden, offering two unique dining experiences. Momiji creates harmony between the dining experience and Japanese craftwork such as hand-carved wooden details by Craig Yamamoto and woven paper lighting by Yuri Kinoshita.
